Singapore Uni students may go Clubbing to chill out on their weekends, students in Adelaide also have their way of nite life at the beach. And we Chill Out literally.
Venue: Glenlg
Time: when its HIGH tide
Tools: nets (the real thing, not the debit card) with string attached, Meat... like those fish and chicken that were stuck in the freezer for half a year before they were found by the careless buyer.
Some water and snack or dinner if u dun intend to spend a single dollar at the restaurants there... recommended to eat seafood while waiting for your crabbie to climb in. =P
Bring a stool to prevent aching legs if yours are the weak ones.
Everyone knows how to club, just go there get a drink and shake their butt, but not everyone knows how to crab when u throw them the net... well but it's not as difficult as it seems.
Demostration by our Aluminium Chef: Chin Fatt
First get prepare the meat, defrozed and tied them to the bottom of the net with some fishing string. Make sure u secure the meat tight enough so that it won't go free to those hungry crabbies crawing underneath.
Next, throw the net as far as you can from the jetty. Just think of throwing away a giant frisbee with stinko fish and chicken meat clinging onto it. It gets kinda heavy and beware of cuts on your hand by this sher force.
Wait for about 30 mins before pulling up the net from the sea bottom. Remember you must pull the net quick and fast, else the crabbies could escape before the net surface! *guys who will to train some muscle and show off to girls fit the job best!*
If u wait patiently with a bit of luck that day, you should have something like this in the net:
The fishermen basket (raw version) : fish, chicken wing and fillet & 2 crabs *oops* chicken is kinda out of place.
Taking out your prey is not easy. They are armed and may attack anytime to get back at you for distrubing their meals.
Hold them either on the tummy, else, their front pair of legs and throw them into a bucket of sea water.
First crabbie of the day. Crabbies must be longer then 11cm for fishing. If you get anything smaller then that, you have to throw it back into the sea...
Crabbing with people who share same passion (all the old uncles or students [us] who are looking for cheap way for expensive seafood) and tourists (who keep hopping from bucket to bucket to check out the biggest crab of the day) at the jetty is really a good way to chill out on the weekends.
